iris & paddy

silver lake, los angeles

iris & paddy are two artists in a large community of artists — he’s a sound engineer and DJ, and she’s a textiles designer. from the onset, they knew their wedding would be unique. set at a private estate in the silver lake neighborhood of los angeles, iris dreamed of a surrealist landscape for her wedding. she envisioned grass-covered sofas, broken terracotta, vignettes of legos among wild floral displays, and above all else, color. the couple enlisted the help of their family & friends to bring their vision to life, all completely DIY.

iris, with the help of her mother, designed & weaved her wedding dress completely by hand. she found inspiration in the silhouettes of the belle époque era, a period of french design in the 1800s, and sewed the front panel of the dress out of paper & silk. paddy complemented this with a gorgeous vintage suit in aquamarine. a family friend & retired florist put together the floral centerpieces, all one-of-a-kind and including funky found materials. the bride’s own bouquet was even made to look like a smiling face as a tongue-in-cheek nod to their funky surrealist theme.

the guest were as much the art as the decor, showing up in incredible outfits, makeup, and even custom headpieces. they enjoyed cocktails around the tower-shaped home complete with live saxophone performances, freshly-made guacamole on tacos by little llama tacos, and a 1970s-esque checkered dance floor by dj fuego. after many heartfelt speeches and a cake by kitchen sink cakes (topped with a 3d-printed statue of the couple), guests partied at HOA-safe volumes thanks to a silent disco by hush concerts. this was one for the books, a great example of how weddings can be art and how they can look completely unique to the two saying ‘i do’.
